Diplomats are subject to special regulations, as they represent the state at government level vis-à-vis other foreign states or international organizations under international law. Due to the regular change of location, the peculiarities of everyday work and special legal regulations, special financial concepts are required in order to guarantee the diplomats and relatives the highest degree of flexibility and security.
We know the special requirements that are important for an embassy, diplomat or consulate and, in cooperation with specialists from all areas, have developed special concepts for diplomats, their relatives, embassies and consulates. The following article gives a little insight.
Health insurance for diplomats
Diplomats in Germany
Holders of diplomatic passports are exempt from compulsory health insurance in Germany. However, it is advisable to take out health insurance for your stay in Germany so that you do not have to pay for health services or repatriation in your home country in the event of illness. In order to meet the individual requirements, a market comparison of different providers is recommended beforehand. We are happy to support you with the application, as there are some pitfalls.
In any case, before taking out private health insurance (PKV), you should pay attention to the EU countries in which the insurance is valid. In general, all Schengen states should be covered by the new health insurance, as well as the respective home country. Some private health insurers in Germany offer so-called incoming insurance for people from other countries who work in Germany. This insurance cover differs from normal private health insurances in that no retirement provisions are calculated there. This makes health insurance coverage cheaper.
As a diplomat abroad
If you are abroad as a German diplomat from the Foreign Office you should check beforehand which services your private health insurance covers and whether there are any gaps. Often the tariffs of the private health insurances cover essential services that you need for the medical first aid abroad. This includes that your private health insurance initially pays the costs of acute medical treatment and the stay in a hospital. If it becomes necessary to return to Germany in a sick state, it is essential that the private health insurance tariff also fully covers the transport costs.
It makes sense – and even mandatory for citizens from non-EU countries – to take out insurance for family members who are only visiting Germany. Anyone who is injured, has an accident or becomes seriously ill in this country must expect high treatment costs. Even comparatively small outpatient or inpatient interventions can quickly cost over 1,000 euros. In this context, too, we offer particularly flexible products that can be locked and canceled on a daily basis.
As a diplomat, you have a responsibility every day. No car driver should therefore do without reliable protection. Even a small sheet metal damage can quickly cost several 1,000 euros. If people are injured in an accident, claims for damages can even run into the millions. With a comprehensive motor vehicle insurance, diplomats and their relatives can protect themselves against all damage. Please ask us for a free, non-binding offer.
Retirement provision and financial investments
Diplomats from Germany receive a good pension in old age, but there is always a gap between them and their previous salary. It is therefore advisable for diplomats to take out an additional private pension. The relatives of diplomats should also be included in a pension plan. Under certain circumstances there is even the possibility of receiving benefits for the spouse via the new regulation of § 53 Paragraph 6 BBesG in conjunction with § 5 AuslZuschlV. We would be happy to support you with the design. In addition to providing for old age, it is advisable to let your savings work, especially in times of low interest rates. To this end, we recommend that our customers put part of their monthly surpluses into a fund savings plan.
An illness or an accident can prevent you from practicing your job on a long-term basis and from earning money yourself. Even at a young age. Income security includes disability insurance, accident insurance and term life insurance.
We would be happy to advise you comprehensively and independently on your worldwide insurance protection. Whether it’s a car, moving house, household effects, liability, health insurance or accident protection. In addition, we will work with you to design a holistic financial plan with a flexible investment and an individual pension plan.
