Reduced guaranteed interest rate in 2022 makes occupational disability insurance more expensive

Reduced guaranteed interest rate in 2022 makes occupational disability insurance more expensive

Contributions, insurance Sep 28, 2021

As of January 1, 2022, the guaranteed interest rate will be reduced from 0.9 percent to 0.25 percent. This value is particularly relevant for life insurance. If this value falls, this confuses the calculation of the contributions. In most cases this means that the insurer has to increase the premiums. For the year 2022, experts therefore expect increasing contributions of up to 15% for occupational disability insurance and accident insurance. Other sectors are also affected, albeit not as badly.

In the area of life insurance, which also includes occupational disability insurance (BU), there is a so-called maximum technical interest rate, often also referred to as the guaranteed interest rate. This is set by the Federal Ministry of Finance and applies to all insurers approved in Germany as the maximum calculation basis. Over the past 15 years, the guaranteed interest rate has fallen from 2.75 percent to the current 0.9 percent. A further drastic reduction to 0.25 percent was decided this year. The actuarial interest rate reached its all-time high in the 1990s at 4.0 percent.

One might think that the actuarial interest rate is only relevant for classic life or fixed-rate annuity insurance. In fact, it has an impact on other products in the life sector. This includes not only occupational disability insurance, but also other products to protect workers, such as basic disability insurance, dread disease insurance and disability insurance.

The occupational disability insurance (BU) is important for almost everyone. It pays a pension if the insured person can no longer work for health reasons. Statistically, every fourth German citizen becomes disabled before the age of 67. The importance of this protection cannot be denied. This is also the view of the Association of Insureds and Stiftung Warentest. This makes the BU one of the three most important insurances, alongside health insurance and private liability.

Due to the additional costs in the new year 2022, the conclusion is worthwhile this year, as you can save up to 15% on premium. So if you were planning to take out a BU or dread disease insurance anyway, you should do so within 2021.

Don’t wait until December to do this! At the end of the year, the processing times for applying for risk insurance (e.g. occupational disability insurance, dread disease or term life insurance) are significantly longer than in all other months of the year. Should a medical examination be necessary for the application (if certain coverage levels are exceeded), you would be even more short of time.

So it is best to make an appointment for a consultation immediately or ask for an initial non-binding offer by email. We check the entire market for you and determine the best and cheapest offer that suits you.

Young people in particular will benefit from a degree this year. The savings can quickly amount to a few thousand euros over a long period. A degree is also possible for schoolchildren or students.

We recommend looking at the topic of health protection again this year. If it goes before December. Take care of the protection of your workforce or a possible death in 2021 and avoid unnecessarily high contribution payments from 2022!

We would be happy to advise you and make you a non-binding offer. & nbsp;
